“Look, I have a gift for you.”
[——]
“Will you take it? A gift.
Wrapped in such a pretty box.”
[I cannot take it.
I should not take it.]
“Do you like a surprise?
Everyone likes a surprise.”
[I don’t.]
“You want to see what’s inside?
Shall I open it for you?”
[I do, but I won’t take that box.]
“How about this:
you pull the ribbon open
and I’ll unwrap the box.
What do you think?”
[What do you want from me?
Don’t come near me.]
“Okay. Let’s try this then.
I put your gift here, on the desk.
I will leave now and you’ll be alone.
You take your time
and you open the box if you’d like.”
[Don’t leave that box here.
It does not belong to me.
I cannot accept a gift
because there is no gift,
they’re a cheat, a lie
a make-believe
I must not fall for.]
“Alright, I’ll see you later.”
[There’s no need.]
